Method for generating planar computer-generated hologram at free viewpoint from cylindrical object light

Computer-generated holography (CGH) is an ideal three-dimensional (3D) display technology, and head-mounted displays (HMDs) using CGH are expected to become the next-generation devices without eye strain, which called holographic HMDs (holo-HMDs). However, computational load too much for a holo-HMD, has limited processing power. We have devised method that calculates cylindrical object light on sender, broadcasts data multiple holo-HMDs, generates holograms matched planar device holo-HMD. The calculations, take up most of load, performed high-performance computer with sufficient transformed into plane in accordance motion phase difference information between complex amplitude distribution corresponding free viewpoint position must be corrected. Using this method, objects placed near center cylinder can observed from wide area, making it possible support 3D image observation holo-HMDs. Experiments actual optical system demonstrated transform was holo-HMD side very small.
